Areas of Practice

Child Custody

Both in divorces and non-divorce cases, the issue of child custody is very personal. Due to this, legal and physical custody labels are some of the most contested issues for families. Our attorneys can walk you through why those labels are important and explain the correlation between them and the family dynamic in your case.

Child Support

Part of the financial process for families in litigation involving children, relates to child support. Knowing the difference between basic support, childcare support, and medical support (and how they interact) is important for all the parties involved. Our office can advise you about what those are, how they are calculated, how they are related, and if and how they can be modified in the future.

Spousal Maintenance

Spousal maintenance (also known as alimony) is often a contested issue in divorces. The basis for (or against) spousal maintenance, how maintenance can be calculated, the difference between gross and net income, the duration of spousal maintenance, and the court's role in modification and enforcement, are all important parts of how spousal maintenance can directly affect your divorce litigation and negotiations.

Parenting Time

Simply put: frequency, duration, the rules surrounding parenting time. These are all related topics in custody and divorce cases that involve children. However, there are detailed nuances that are different for each case and learning about those can be beneficial for you and your family.

Criminal Defense

Tickets, citations, and formal complaints are the main ways in which criminal defendants (those charged for alleged criminal offenses) are "charged". The severity of offenses in Minnesota range from petty misdemeanors, misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and felonies; each have their own financial and possible criminal penalties, which can range from only a fine, a few months in jail, or even prison time.
